This past summer I somehow was signed up to not only document the summer trips of Habitat’s Learn and Build Experience, but to also be a team leader for the group. In spent two weeks in June and July shoveling dirt, picking weeds and spending time with the residents of Elk Park, N.C. as we worked with Habitat homeowners and the community. Looking back on it, I’m glad I not only survived, but actually enjoyed the 16 teens. Here’s a photo of all of us at a moment where we’re all just happy to feel like we’re on top of the world, at Grandfather Mountain. I wrote a column lamenting about how I was tired of feeling like a mom after the two weeks, but looking back on it, this picture is enough.
